One of the blogs I like to follow is Wendy’s blog Dirks’ Dolls. Wendy writes an awesome doll photo story about the life of the West Enders. One of her characters is “played” by the Rainbow Dress (or Rainbow Bright) Fashionista Barbie, and Wendy has swapped her doll’s body with an articulated one. I wanted my own Rainbow doll to have some articulation too, so I asked Wendy where she got the body. Wendy told me it was Maisha’s body, a doll made by the South African company Malaville.
I ordered Maisha and within a week she arrived.
I would like to take the opportunity to give a big thank you to Wendy, who was so kind to direct me to this company. 🙂
Let’s take a closer look at Maisha.
Maisha’s afro has nice thick curls. On the box there’s a warning: “Excessive brushing of doll’s hair will alter the curls”. Her head can be rotated in all directions. The body has moulded-on underwear; it doesn’t have a rotating waist. The arms have limited articulation at the shoulders and elbows. The knees bend with a click system.
The outfit is basic: a white shirt with “Lavi” printed on it and blue jodhpurs.
Maisha has high heel feet, and wears black pumps that are a bit too big for her. The shoes don’t fall off though.
… And now I’m supposed to show pictures of the body swap between Maisha and the Fashionista… I just couldn’t do it! I love this doll as she is and don’t want to take her apart! So, what I’m going to do is wait until my doll budget allows me to order a second Maisha, along with Lola, a gorgeous redhead with freckles and a caramel skin tone, and re-body Rainbow girl later. 🙂
On another note: Yéyé Dolls is going on a summer break and will return in September. Real life duty calls! I have a living/dining room to redecorate and a garden that needs a higher fence. The redecorating includes sanding the painted wood doors and repainting them and removing the old wallpaper (my tasks, yaaay).
I’ll be back with entries about the makeover of my Furga Damina doll Mimi (repaint of the lips and a new hair-do) and her new dress, my progress on the maid’s uniform inspired by the TV series Gran Hotel, and new scans of leaflets, that’s been a while.
I wish you all a beautiful summer (or a cozy winter if you’re living down under). Stay safe and careful but don’t forget to have fun! 🙂
